US Congress Begins Hip Hop Decency Debate

September 26, 2007 by Jyle

congressI wrote in the past about the US congress debating the lyrics used in hip hop music. Well that has finally gotten underway. Today began the who knows how long debate.

Rappers Master P. and David Banner appeared on Capitol Hill today (September 25) to testify before members of Congress, who conducted hearings with the top entertainment executives about lyrics in Hip-Hop music.

Congress seems to feel that their country is compromising freedom of speech over decency. The debate will undoubtedly become heated with valid points coming from both sides.

My only problem with all of this is that it seems to be directed to hip hop lyrics using words like bitch, ho, and n***a. At the same time congress is failing to address other popular music that are being just as degrading. The Guns & Roses California Girls were never criticized for their lewd conduct.

Thanx AllHipHop
