The Blakroc Sessions

December 17, 2009 by stephaniehoff

I’m a fan of The Black Keys. Even though their songs kinda blend into one sometimes, the duo have got that bluesy dirty rock style down pat. Lately it seems they have reached a wider audience, their last album Attack and Release was produced by Danger Mouse and was supposed to have been a collabo with late Ike Turner. Now, one year later they’ve partnered up with the one and only Damon Dash, formerly of Roc-A-Fella Records. Dash in turn, hooked them up with a ton of rappers to make probably the best rock/rap album since the Judgment Night soundtrack. The album features Ludacris, Rza, Mos Def, Q-Tip, Raekwon, and even a couple of new verses from Ol’ Dirty Bastard, to name a few.

Leading up to the release, they did a weekly video podcast which showed a different studio session with each artist. This my fave, Billy Danze of M.O.P. completely killing it. Enjoy.
