No Picketing At This Years Grammys

by Jyle on January 23rd, 2008

Grammy Invitation The Writers Guild of America have announced that they will not be picketing this years 50th Anniversary Grammy Awards. Which mean it will be business as usual. The Golden Globes was cancelled due to the writers strike, so it was feared the same would happen to the music industry’s biggest day of the year.

Here’s a transcript of the letter:

———–

Dear Friends:

I am extremely pleased and proud to inform you that the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has determined that it will not picket The GRAMMY Awards. This critical and vital step ensures that GRAMMY Week and the Telecast can proceed with the sole focus on the great music, artists, and charitable work resulting from our show. While the producers of the Telecast have not yet been offered an interim agreement which would allow the two WGA writers to proceed with the show, we will continue to pursue that goal in the days ahead. Below, you will see several “Statements” of relevance.

As always, I appreciate your support and confidence; the overwhelming responses from literally thousands of Academy members made a powerful statement and contributed to this good news and positive result. And as I’d said previously, “The Show WILL go on!”

Warm regards,

Neil

Neil, by the way is from the Grammys Executive Office in case you thought I just pulled this out of my ass.

I was invited to this years Grammy Awards but because of the huge amount of unexpected visitors needing to cover the Grammy’s (because they couldn’t cover the Golden Globes) I got bumped. Ah, maybe next year.
