My Top Ten Guilty Pleasure Songs
November 19, 2007 by Jyle
This is a little late because I was having computer issues all day but better late than never, right?
Okay, this is going to be embarrassing. I’m supposed to be a Hip-Hop writer, right? I’m not supposed to like these seemingly geeky songs that no one wants to admit they like, but they are what they are. You can’t help what you like, its like that really hot girl everyone knows who marries the overweight bald guy (there’s nothing wrong with being bald and overweight, its just an example). No one knows what the attraction is, but it is what it is. So please, I’m putting myself out there, which I hate doing, so be nice. These are not in order because it was too hard to choose which ones I liked over others.
By the way, if you are at all interested, some other brave bloggers on the Music Channel have made Top 10 lists. Here are some links (I’ve borrowed most of it from Lauren of Oz Music Scene):
- Mike at Big Apple Music Scene
- Scott at Metal Martyr
- Roberta at Ear Sucker
- Bruce at Our Digital Music
- Dave at Brit Music Scene
- Jennifer from Hippie Sounds

1. “Romeo and Juliet” – Dire Straits
I haven’t met anyone who likes or even knows what this song is before making them listen to it. I think that this is the best song ever made (aside from hip-hop/rap music).
More after the jump!
2. “Hide and Seek” – Imogen Heap
Saturday Night Live made this one for me. I can’t listen to this song without laughing – it’s in my happy thoughts.
3. “Don’t Tell Me” – Madonna
I think this song is amazing! When it first came out I couldn’t hear enough of it. I would just listen to it over and over again. To really appreciate this song you need to pay attention to its layers.
4. “BBQ Stain” – Tim McGraw
I went through a country phase a long time ago, old habits (or likes) die hard.
5. “Love Is A Battlefield” – Pat Benatar
I appreciate the songs of the 80s. This one just happens to be my favourite from that genre.
6. “La Era De La Cathedrales” – Notre Dame de Paris
I was living in France when this show was at the height of its popularity (before the English version). Everyone loved this soundtrack so I’m not going to feel embarrassed.
7. “Around The World” – Daft Punk
I love this song mostly because of its music video. I love watching those robots!
8. “Buttons” – The Pussy Cat Dolls
All right, I don’t know why I like this song, there is nothing to like.
9. “Call My Name” – Charlotte Church
Don’t ask me why I like this song, but once I hear it I can’t get it out of my head. Maybe it’s the base?
10. “Je t’aimais, je t’aime, je t’aimerai” – Francis Cabrel
“I loved you, I love you, and I will always love you,” is the English translation of this famous French song. It’s a little sappy I know, but it’s a good song.

Oh my god, I LOVE “Romeo and Juliet”! I agree, one of the best songs ever. I’m also with you on the Pat Benatar
Rome and Juliet is not a “guilty” pleasure
, it’s pure pride. Great song, but VERY tacky clip…
Buttons…hmm. lol.
