Mos Def ushers in a new sound for hip-hop

Mos Def released a video called Flowers to help create some excitement for his new album The Ecstatic that promises to be in stores June 9, 2009.

Mos Def is an interesting guy because his music is more poetry than rap. But if you think of the true grassroots of hip-hop, the on you feet smack talk rhythms Mos–Def is really bring it back old school. True, it’s not the base thumping chords that grabs your attention, instead it’s the lyrics. I can truly appreciate his non-commercial take on hip-hop.

Like the blues was to jazz, Mos-Def could be to commercial hip-hop.
