Ghostface Killah Goes To Rehab

by Jyle on December 4th, 2007

Well Ghostface Killah’s new album "The Big Doe Rehab" explains why he went to rehabs to take care of his addiction to money.

Look out for his new album in stores soon. Here is what some critics said about his latest album.

"Predictably Outstanding…Rehab delivers everything we’ve come to expect from hip-hop’s most dependable absurdist — more psychedelic, coke-addled crime fiction spit relentlessly over horny rewired soul samples. Still hot from the (critical) success of last year’s Fishscale and More Fish, Ghostface swings for the fences and scores on almost every track…It’s hard to imagine that any of the thousand rap records coming out next month will best this one." - New York Magazine’s "Vulture Blog"

"Ghostface can’t lose. While the Shaolin rapper’s sales fail to parallel the critical adoration that revolves around his Marble cake dripping steez, Tony Starks nevertheless continues to pad his already impressive discography. In ‘06 he dropped not one but two solid albums, Fishscale and More Fish, and before old man winter can get a fresh ‘08 Timb to the rear, he drops The Big Doe Rehab (Def Jam). Ghost’s seventh proper album finds him at his emotive best, keeping his eye on his circa ‘88 era fly aesthetic while making his music hard boiled enough for new age Hip-Hop aficionados." - Allhiphop.com

"In the six years the Clan were on hiatus, Ghostface Killah was busy becoming one of the greatest MCs ever….Ghost’s bouncy, more direct approach on cuts like "Walk Around" shows off his ability to turn crack-slinging narratives into big, hooky pleasures. By the time he lays his inimitable, Ginsu-sharp whine into "White Linen Affair," a gloriously detailed rant that touches on baking soda, polar bears and Norah Jones, this much is clear: Right now is a good time to be a Wu-Tang fan." - Rolling Stone (4 Stars)

"With Rehab, Ghostface proves his tried-and-true technique has plenty of juice left in it…Given his urgent delivery and detailed verses, Ghostface is still in his prime when weaving yarns about inner-city crime. Songs like ”Yolanda’s House”and ”Yapp City” drop listeners in the midst of chaotic police chases and bullet-riddled robberies….By the end of the Rehab stint, you’ll find that this Ghost is very much alive." - Entertainment Weekly

"All through "The Big Doe Rehab" you want to tell the New York rapper Ghostface Killah to take 10 deep breaths. The lyrics here — more of the cinematic cocaine-and-guns pulp-drama that he perfected last year on "Fishscale" — are paranoid or apoplectic from the start. The characters shouting these stories aren’t just unreliable narrators; they are grandiose, violent, tired, self-doubting and high…Ghostface is a poet of unraveling minds and multiple distractions…For backing samples, he uses sentimental late-1960s or early ’70s soul music with string arrangements. The violins, boosted and whining, under the hiss of old vinyl, intensify the paranoia in the tracks. But his storytelling focuses it all…" - New York Times
