Jay-Z is a Devil Worshipper!
February 4, 2010 by stephaniehoff
The title got you, didn’t it? So, you’ve probably caught wind of the current criticism circled around Jay-Z and camp by now. Headlines are calling Beyonce, Rihanna and Jay-Z everything from Freemason/ Illuminati to Devil Worshipping demons. I’ve watched a handful of youtube flicks upwards of 45 minutes long dissecting music videos for satanic imagery and Freemason symbols. Some even go as far as playing records backwards to hear evil word repetition in the beats. I’ve got a little conspiracy theory of my own and it has nothing to do with the devil and everything to do with free publicity. …read more

Warm Up: 002 – Summertime
January 19, 2010 by stephaniehoff
I learned something new today, it’s a thing called Youtube Doubler. It allows you to do your own personal mashup of two Youtube videos. I’m sure I’ll be going nuts in the future with this, but my first attempt was inspired by my current winter blahs. So please sit back in a comfy chair, close your eyes, and let the ocean waves and Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince carry you somewhere care-free and warm… At least for four minutes.
As a bonus, here is the original break by Kool & the Gang; Summer …read more
Wyclef in Haiti
January 15, 2010 by stephaniehoff
By now the whole world is focused on the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti a few days ago. While our prayers and donations go out to the families, workers and survivors, Haitian born Wyclef Jean of the Fugees flew over for some more hands-on aid. Kind of reminds me of Sean Penn in New Orleans. Wyclef and his family are physically pulling bodies out of rubble and saving anyone they can. He believes the death toll could be well over the 100,000 estimated, it’s an overwhelming number that is hard for me to process. He urges everyone to donate to …read more
The Hip Hop Project on DVD Today
January 5, 2010 by stephaniehoff
I feel a bit cheesy watching inspirational type movies. They make me feel the same way I did in high school when they encouraged safe sex by having you watch a 5 minute commercial with Arsenio Hall talking about AIDs. What annoys me is the obvious attempt to evoke an emotion, it’s so forced and no matter how hard they try it will never been cool or on the level. But listen to me, you think I’d be happy to see those depicted as my peers overcome adversity and triumph over drug addition, abuse, street life, or whatever the issue …read more
True Hip-Hop Stories
December 26, 2009 by stephaniehoff
It’s always interesting hearing the back stories of how my favorite song came to be, or what went down when they were recording, or if there were any changes that took place in the process. Yeah, I know I’m kind of a nerd like that. Anyway, about two years ago I started watching some amazing mini-documentaries made by the legendary rapper D-Nice, I’m sorry I haven’t shared them with you yet. In each episode he picks one rapper to talk about one of their songs, plain and simple. Masta Ace talks about doing The Symphony with the rest of the …read more

Ludacris Likes to Mix Things Up With Conjure Cognac
November 15, 2009 by Brittany
If you didn’t already know about Ludacris’ handcrafted Cognac named Conjure then brace yourself. It definitely is going to be the drank of the holidays! On November 12 Ludacris hosted the Conjure Miami Mix Off that brought together the best of the best Miami mixologists.
These pros battled to ‘create the best Conjure cocktail’. Conjure is considered a ‘highly mixable’ Cognac that lends itself to ‘plenty of creative’ recipes. Or as Ludacris himself likes to describe it:
Conjure is strong enough for a man, smooth enough for a woman.
He has even gone as far to say that it is sex in a …read more
Mos Def Bets a Million Dollars On MF DOOM Against ‘Lil Wayne
Last March The Culture Capture Champs caught up with Mos Def in the studio to find out about his influences. The video that resulted is insanely entertaining especially if you’re a fan of MF DOOM. For 7 minutes Mos recites some of the best MF lyrics revealing just how tight they are.
Regardless there’s no doubt that MF DOOM is one of Mos Def’s top rappers and biggest influences. He knows his ish inside out. He talks about when Madvillainy came out that he looked at the record and just KNEW that they got it right not to mention he didn’t …read more
