Warm up: 003 – Mike Giant Rollin High Dice Game
February 2, 2010 by stephaniehoff
Screw club hopping in this weather, Friday night I’m getting crew together to shoot dice and drink beer. All you need is a couple rolls of quarters (unless you’re core enough to pay with bills), a few friends and the dice. While you’re at it you might as well do it in style with the Mike Giant Rollin High Dice Game Set.
Mike Giant is the co-owner of the San Francisco based clothing brand Rebel8 and legendary graffiti artist. Check out the video below of Wu-Tang’s U-God explaining how to play.

Warm Up: 002
January 29, 2010 by stephaniehoff
Still cold?
Think back to A Long Hot Summer in 2004 and run out to grab this by Masta Ace. The highly acclaimed concept/ follow up album to 2001’s Disposable Arts. Pump this under your hat and instead of walking through a snow storm you’ll be following Ace and Fats Belvedere through Brooklyn in the heat.
Or you can stay in where it’s warm and buy it here.

I Wanna Rock… Jay-Z and additional RMX’s
January 13, 2010 by stephaniehoff
Well then, a day has passed since I heard the Busta Rhymes version of Snoop Dogg’s single I Wanna Rock (which I am still bumping). The thing is, I came across another one featuring Jay-Z which is the official remix that will be on Snoop’s re-release album entitled More Malice. Then, after that, I came across A TON of others. It appears many rappers have decided upon themselves to record unofficial tracks with the Doggfather (not that there’s anything wrong with that). A quick internet search will find versions with Young Jeezy, Fat Joe, Raekwon, Lloyd Banks, Kardinal Offishall, Bow …read more
This, or that? – Wu Tang
January 4, 2010 by stephaniehoff
I’m starting something new here at HipHopRoll.com it’s called (look up, look up)… Yep! You guess it, this, or that? Here’s the concept: I’ll give you a this and a that and you’ll hit the comments page and tell us all which is better, worse, more hilarious, etc. depending on whatever the subject matter may be.
Now, since it’s a new year and I’m kicking a new segment, I figure I’ll keep true to that theme and do an old/ new – group/ solo comparison to commence things. It ain’t Wednesday but lets talk Wu simply because I saw this …read more
Snoop on Martha Stewart
December 24, 2009 by stephaniehoff
Check out the Doggfather on the Martha Stewart Christmas Cookies Special making a batch of green chocolate brownies and a ridiculous amount of weed references. Follow the link to the episode, the clip below.
And in case you missed his mashed potato debut last year…
Christmas Countdown – 3 Days
December 21, 2009 by stephaniehoff
I’ve been waiting to post this one… It is easily my favorite Outkast joint, and probably my favorite Christmas song. Player’s Ball dropped in 1993 as their first single, but before that it appeared on a compilation called A LaFace Christmas. The record had songs from different LaFace recording artists which included TLC, Toni Braxton and Usher. In Player’s Ball, the beat is carried by sleigh bells while Andre and Big Boi drop their southern playalistic lyrics filled with Christmas references.
“You thought I’d break my neck to help y’all deck the halls”, “Ain’t no chimneys in the ghetto so I …read more
Christmas Countdown – 11 Days
December 14, 2009 by stephaniehoff
This has got to be the most gangster christmas video ever made. Snoop in the flying lo lo with Nate Dogg and Tray Deee singing Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto off my all time favorite holiday album, Christmas on Death Row (1996). My wish-list probably included a Nintendo 64, a copy of Muddy Waters and some seriously puffy skate shoes that year. What was on yours?

Christmas Countdown – 12 Days
December 13, 2009 by stephaniehoff
Over 12 years have passed by since the Pharcyde dropped their debut and classic album Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde. Unfortunately, after their sophomore effort things began to fall apart. Not even the J-Dilla production or Spike Jonze direction could keep them together. Fatlip left the group and we didn’t hear a thing from any them between 1995 and 2000. Since then there have been reunions, solo projects and many collaborations. Today I bring you one of the harder to find gems, All I Want for Christmas, a 2007 Christmas joint featuring Fatlip, Slim Kid Tre and St. Imey of …read more
Christmas Countdown – 17 days
December 8, 2009 by stephaniehoff
I’ve got respect for early 80’s hip hop but if I never heard The Message again I wouldn’t be bummed. I was born in 1983, maybe that’s the problem: a 15 year disconnect from the birth of rap. I know what it’s like to bear witness to an emerging sub-culture. I was around for the second wave of hardcore in the early to mid 90’s, it was a tight-knit scene and everything from slang words to our footwear seemed very exclusive and exciting. So when I hear these original hip hop heads talking about the 80’s like it was a …read more
