Juicy
January 22, 2010 by stephaniehoff
I was listening to more Juan Epstein podcasts yesterday, a second one with Pete Rock. I really like nerding out to these because it makes me go back and listen to tunes I haven’t pulled out in a while. I forgot that Heavy D was Pete Rock’s cousin, and how Pete produced a lot of the songs on the Blue Funk album. Pete also talks about songs he produced, but never got credit for. He talks about how back in 1993 he was chilling with Biggie when he put on the beat for Juicy. Biggie tripped and was like “yo …read more
Warm Up: 001
January 18, 2010 by stephaniehoff
I don’t know where you’re at but in Toronto it’s dreary, cold and basically impossible to leave the crib. This is my view from the second floor studio apartment I live in. Where there’s usually about 15 Portuguese kids running around yelling at the top of there lungs, somebody having a cigarette on the front porch and an old lady pushing a cart full of wine bottles down the street, just total silence. Anybody wanna put me up in So Cal? If you’re all cooped up like I am and looking for something to keep your brain from hibernating, here’s a couple …read more

The Wall Street Journal Interviews Snoop
December 5, 2009 by stephaniehoff
I know this blog is a little heavy on the Snoop tip lately but what can I say? I’m excited about that drop on the 8th!
Hip hop is fascinating am I right? Obviously we dig the music aspect, beats, lyrics, rap personalities… etc. But the business side is economics and marketing, those that understand the industry of hip hop reap the rewards. Snoop is a business man, I know it, you know, The Wall Street Journal knows it. In fact, they thought enough of the D-O-double-G’s business expertise to ask him all about it in an interview. Follow the link …read more

Lancecape on The Undergods EP
November 26, 2009 by stephaniehoff
A couple of months ago Keith Murray and Canibus put out The Undergods self-titled debut EP. I’m a really big fan of Keith Murray so I was stoked for new material and had the iTunes pumping it for about a week. Around this time, my friend and I are chilling at the crib when the second last track (Rise of the Machine) comes on and I’m like, “are you hearing this dirty beat?!” We’re feeling it for a couple seconds when my friend announces that he’s old high school crew with the dude that produced it. Obviously I had to …read more
Ghostface Killah – Wizard of Poetry
November 25, 2009 by stephaniehoff
A lot of people hate on Ghost’s newest album, Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City. I’m a girl so obviously I love when rap and R&B come together to make those catchy jams. I don’t care what anyone says, this record is god. Hate it or love it if there is anyone in the game that can make an R&B album hype it’s the Wallaby Champ.
Here’s Ghost saying “If you love me, you gonna love me regardless” and more on Wizard of Poetry.
Kid Sister Announces Debut Album Ultraviolet
October 17, 2009 by Jyle
Kid Sister has finally announce the release of her debut album coming in stores November 12, 2009. The Album Ultraviolet is being produced with the help from Downtown Records / Universal Republic. If you haven’t heard this girl sing than check her out at MySpace/KidSister. The music reminds me of some old school hip-hop. A sound that is loosing ground to the likes of auto-tunes and gangster-rap.
If Kid Sister sounds like your kind of artist get ‘fresh with her’ and enter to win a free ticket to one of her upcoming concerts. She’ll be on a national tour of the …read more
