You Down Wit OPP?

You Down Wit OPP?

Beef is a pretty common thing in hip-hop, amongst the biggest are Biggie and 2Pac, MC Shan and KRS, Roxanne Shante and the Real Roxanne. Tonight I was reminded of a pretty down low beef that included Naughty By Nature and a lesser known Jersey cat named Tony D. When Naughty’s debut single OPP dropped in 1991, they blew up pretty fast, that jam was playing everywhere. It Probably took one day for Tony D to hear and and start laughing. See the thing is, Tony made the exact same beat two years prior called Adam’s Nightmare on Sure Shot …read more

Happy Birthday Tupac!

Happy Birthday Tupac. Today is his 38th birthday and we should all have a 2Pac filled day. Crank his music loud.

For those of you who don’t know Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in the East Harlem section of Manhattan, New York City. He was named after Túpac Amaru II who was a famous Peruvian revolutionary who led an ill fated indigenous uprising against their Spanish overlords.

TMZ Reports Tupac Found

TMZ Reports Tupac Found

The celebrity sleeze news outlet TMZ (can you tell I don’t like them) has reported (they will report anything) that Tupac Shakur has been found.

Tupac Amaru Shakur Poster
He was supposedly spotted in a bar on Bourbon Street, New Orleans. See the pictures here.
Personally I don’t believe that it’s him. I’ve seen more convincing photos of Tupac standing next to 50 Cent. This one just looks like a good look alike. Besides, if you faked your death, would you be looking the same years later? If Tupak was alive I would imagine that he would have changed his appearance …read more

Tupac Tuesday: "Smile"

Tupac Tuesday: "Smile"

Tupac & Scarface – Smile

Despite the majority of the song being sung by Tupac Shakur, Scarface takes the credit for this song with features from Tupac and Johnny P. In the music video it looks like Tupac is being crucified on power lines in a pergatory world. However, when you read the end notes… "There are times I’ve suffered shipwreck in my journeys: In perils of robbers; In perils of false brethren; In perils of my own design. Yet, from these perils comes knowledge: Only from within may we truly shine." you realize that he most likely thinks of himself …read more

Tupac Tuesday: "Do 4 Love"

Tupac Tuesday: "Do 4 Love"

This song, which was released posthumously, is one of my favorite’s from Tupac but I won’t lie – the video gave me the creeps when I first saw it.  The claymation/cartoon is just weird and serves as a reminder that he’s no longer alive/around to make videos.  Oh well.  I will just listen to it and not look at it – ha ha!

Tupac Tuesday: "California Love"

Tupac Tuesday: "California Love"

California Love was the song that made even mainstream music lovers notice Tupac.  In this collaboration with Dr. Dre, Pac helped create one of the biggest, most popular rap songs of that time.  I really didn’t know too many people who didn’t like it (even those people who hate rap and hip hop music).
The video is made in the style of Mad Max and features Chris Tucker who I really didn’t know too much about at that time.

Tupac Tuesday: The Day He Died – Video

Here is the MTV segment that aired on the day that Tupac died.  It showed his rise to fame (including clips from Juice and a video with Digital Underground among other things).  It was really interesting to look back on his life and be reminded of so many things that I used to know about him but have since forgotten.  It also helped me hate Suge Knight all over again…

Tupac Tuesday "Dear Mama" – Video

Today is Tupac Tuesday, so it’s time for another Tupac video. This week’s video is “Dear Mama.” Many have said that this is one of the most pure hip hop songs ever created and critics have named it as the #4 spot on the 100 Greatest Rap songs of all time. It really is a great song. I love it. If only every mother had a son who wrote songs like this.
