Lil Wayne stunned the people at Billboard who announced yesterday that he grossed over $42 million in his 2008-09 North American tour. What’s amazing is that he made that much even after a few no show/ticket refunds, and court cases that held him back from performing a few times.

Billboard has been keeping track of tour sales for only just a few years now. However the only person to have come close to Lil Wayne’s new title win was Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige who raked in $34.6 in 2008.

Hip-hop, R&B and Soul will be well represented at this year’s American Music Awards.  Naturally, Chris Brown is nominated quite a bit but he will have to beat out Usher to win "Favorite Male Artist," (I’d like to see Chris win) among others.  His rumored girlfriend, Rihanna, is also nominated in several categories.
The one that is really tough for me to pick, though, is in the "Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Album" category.  I really like all three choices: Jay-Z (American Gangster), Lil Wayne (Tha Carter III) and Kanye West (Graduation).  American Gangster really brings back classic rap without all the frills …read more

Hip-Hops own Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Ashanti, Ciara and Fergie will be teaming up with Sheryl Crow, Melissa Ethridge, Natasha Bedingfield, Miley Cirus, Leona Lewis, Carrie Underwood, Keyshia Cole and Leann Rimes to produce a single for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign. The organization is on a mission to help raise funds and bring awareness to cancer research. A special will air on ABC, CBS and NBC at 8pm ET/PT were the women are scheduled to perform their song. It should be interesting.

Mary J. Blige walked the red carpet to the “Sex & The City: The Movie” premiere, held in New York City tonight, May 27, 2008. She was looking fabulous as always. I didn’t pin her as a “Sex & The City” fan but then again I never understood those who still watch “Lost.”

During the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, Mary J. Blige made an appearance at the amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS benefit. The event was held at Le Moulin de Mougins where she posed with her husband, Kendu Isaacs. That woman’s hair always looks good!

Hip hop veteran, Mary J. Blige has been extremely successful with her career and now wants to help other women do well in life as well. Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute created a foundation dedicated to giving women career skills and opportunities. The charity is called the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now, and will concentrate mostly on the Yonkers, New York area first because it is home to Blige.
