The title got you, didn’t it? So, you’ve probably caught wind of the current criticism circled around Jay-Z and camp by now. Headlines are calling Beyonce, Rihanna and Jay-Z everything from Freemason/ Illuminati to Devil Worshipping demons. I’ve watched a handful of youtube flicks upwards of 45 minutes long dissecting music videos for satanic imagery and Freemason symbols. Some even go as far as playing records backwards to hear evil word repetition in the beats. I’ve got a little conspiracy theory of my own and it has nothing to do with the devil and everything to do with free publicity. You’ve heard the expression,”there is no such thing as bad press”? Despite all the current rumors and fanaticism surrounding the Jay-Z Devil Worshipping claims he recently launches this video:

A dark, Marilyn Mansonesque flick, full of evil clowns, goat-headed figure, fire, skulls and the list goes on. Now pick up any current fashion magazine in existence and flip through it. You’ll notice the same imagery, leather, studs, black lipstick, tattoo inspired design, that’s fashion. Jay-Z creating a steezy, style savvy video full of dark imagery at the height of media buzz, that’s good marketing. If money is the root of all evil then call Jay-Z the devil, he’s laughing all the way to the bank.

Well then, a day has passed since I heard the Busta Rhymes version of Snoop Dogg’s single I Wanna Rock (which I am still bumping). The thing is, I came across another one featuring Jay-Z which is the official remix that will be on Snoop’s re-release album entitled More Malice. Then, after that, I came across A TON of others. It appears many rappers have decided upon themselves to record unofficial tracks with the Doggfather (not that there’s anything wrong with that). A quick internet search will find versions with Young Jeezy, Fat Joe, Raekwon, Lloyd Banks, Kardinal Offishall, Bow Wow and Nipsey Hussle just to name a few. Busta’s is still my favourite, maybe it’s because it’s obvious to me he was destined to be on this track. Snoop wanted him for the chorus originally, but he was out of the country and could not do it.

Yesterday, rap mogul Jay-Z and R&B songstress, Alicia Keys performed their collaborative single together, “Empire State of Mind” at Game 2 of the 2009 World Series. The two of them brought the house down in Yankee Stadium, Hova wearing his New York Yankees hat and jacket.

The performance was great and I would have loved to been there! They couldn’t have chosen a better pair of performers, especially since Jay-Z loves his team so much.

Alicia recently said that she’s grateful that Jay-Z hit her up for the song, “Obviously, I’m very grateful to him for reaching out to me and for that type of ability to represent my hometown, like, that was crazy. So we went to the studio. I went to the studio, and … I fell in love from the jump."

She continued, "He’s like, ‘The piano, the way the style [is], the whole flow, and it couldn’t be the anthem of New York without you.’ "

Check out their performance in Yankee Stadium below!

Other winners included Jay-Z who made a surprise appearance to perform “As Real As It Gets” and accept his MVP of the Year Award, beating out Lil Wayne and Drake. Though don’t get mad yet cause Drake took the spotlight when he won in the Rookie of the Year Award – go Canada!

Jay-Z was on Oprah today, September 24th, 2009. On the show he took Oprah on a special tour of his family home in Brooklyn and the Marcy Projects where he grew up. While there, they attracted a huge gathering of local fans who spotted the duo in town.
Make sure you check out the video of the interview after the jump.

Did it seem that Oprah was a little fake in the interview. Like Jay-Z’s comment that hip-hop has been the biggest influence on changing racism in America? Sounded like she didn’t agree with that to me.

Lil Wayne stunned the people at Billboard who announced yesterday that he grossed over $42 million in his 2008-09 North American tour. What’s amazing is that he made that much even after a few no show/ticket refunds, and court cases that held him back from performing a few times.

Billboard has been keeping track of tour sales for only just a few years now. However the only person to have come close to Lil Wayne’s new title win was Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige who raked in $34.6 in 2008.

Despite her hatred for the hip-hop industry she had to admit that it was the hip-hop artists like Jay-Z and Will.I.Am who helped her boy Barack Obama become the first African American president of the United States.

In a new segment of the Oprah Winfrey Show she decided to visit some celebrities hometowns. So what better way to show the then and now than to bring in a hip-hop artist and do a show on that.

So Jay-Z will be taking Oprah and her camera crews through his grandmothers house in Brooklyn, New York located on Lexington Avenue and Lewis Avenue. He’ll then show them around the Marcy projects.

No doubt on the upcoming show Oprah will share with people the horrors of being poor and that everyone has the power to make it out of the projects.

Sorry I just need to get this out there. Like most people I grew up poor. And I can tell you that making it out of the poor cycle isn’t always a choice. It’s as if Oprah is calling people who live in the projects lazy or something. My dad worked hard to support his family and we still didn’t have money. If she believes that minimum wage is enough to support a family she’s crazy and should try doing it herself. That would be a good show. The only thing this upcoming hometown segment will prove is that if you can rap or have talent you have no hope of making out in this world.

The song “Run This Town” features the return of Rihanna, and the talent of Kanye West. How can that possibly go wrong? My favorite part of the song is when Kanye says “what do you think I rap for, so that I could drive a Rav4?”
