Kanye West

Kanye West was born June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia, where he lived with both of his parents. When he was eleven his parents divorced. His mother moved to Chicago, Illinois. His father, Ray West, who was a former Black Panther became one of the first African-American photojournalists at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and is now a Christian counselor. Kanye’s mother, Dr. Donda West, had worked as the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University. She has since retired and is now acting as Kanye’s manager. Kanye was raised in an upper middle class background, attending Polaris High School in suburban Oak Lawn, Illinois. After attending The American Academy of Art, a Chicago art school, West attended Columbia College Chicago, but eventually dropped out in order to begin working on his music career.
