If you didn’t already know about Ludacris’ handcrafted Cognac named Conjure then brace yourself. It definitely is going to be the drank of the holidays! On November 12 Ludacris hosted the Conjure Miami Mix Off that brought together the best of the best Miami mixologists. These pros battled  to ‘create the best Conjure cocktail’. Conjure is considered a ‘highly mixable’ Cognac that lends itself to ‘plenty of creative’ recipes. Or as Ludacris himself likes to describe it: Conjure is strong enough for a man, smooth enough for a woman. He has even gone as far to say that it is sex in a bottle! Dammmnnnnn! Well I know what I’m looking for this holiday season at the liquor store! The ‘Best... [Read more]

Wu-Tang Wednesday: Wu-Tang Forever (1997)

In ‘97 I was 12. I remember getting a drive home after basketball practice by a friends older bro. He was listening to Wu-Tang Forever and like magic my music training wheels fell off and I was the fastest transformed Wu-Tang fan. My brother didn’t want me to listen to it because of the errr ‘rough’ content and my parents were no different. Despite all that I went out and bought Wu-Tang Forever which is hands down my all time fave Wu-Tang album! Even though I was young and didn’t know much about hip-hop I recognized that these homies were gurus, leaders, and not to mention timeless. Image Credit: Zuma Press Sure enough 12 years later Wu-Tang Forever is still just as dope as it was when I was a kid if not better!... [Read more]

Artist Spotlight – Babes in Hip-Hop: Mya

I’m going to take you down memory lane, to some classic tracks and one classic babe: Mya. Although she’s still kickin’ it I first got up on her steez in the late ’90s when Ghetto Superstar featuring ODB and Pras came out. This track was everywhere and it was hard to find someone who didn’t know the song inside out. Mya killed it and thus began my love for babes in Hip-Hop. No one can deny that she adds sexiness to some of the best rap stars out there, like Jay-Z.  In his 2000 “Best of Me” track Mya turns it into gold. Her voice is like honey and although you’ll usually find her producing R&B tracks, I think she belongs in Hip Hop. Ghetto Superstar vid after the jump! [Read more] [Read more]

Last March The Culture Capture Champs caught up with Mos Def in the studio to find out about his influences. The video that resulted is insanely entertaining especially if you’re a fan of MF DOOM. For 7 minutes Mos recites some of the best MF lyrics revealing just how tight they are. Regardless there’s no doubt that MF DOOM is one of Mos Def’s top rappers and biggest influences. He knows his ish inside out. He talks about when Madvillainy came out that he looked at the record and just KNEW that they got it right not to mention he didn’t even have a record player but had to have it! Now that’s loyalty! Mos even goes as far to say that he would ‘bet a million dollars on MF against ‘Lil Wayne’. Well... [Read more]

Madvillain is Villanous in ‘All Caps’ Video

There’s two things I love most about Madvillain, MF DOOM and Madlib.  A force to be reckoned with this duo has been turning up on my playlist time and time again since 2004, the date they released Madvillainy. This gem of a record has some of the best samples and lyrics that you’ll actually stop to listen to. Madlib’s beats hook you in while MF’s lyricism is highly hypnotic. Some call MF’s style lazy but I think he kills it. No matter how slow and burnt out he sounds his rhymes always drop on point.  What I love even more is their ‘All Caps’ vid. It’s a visual depiction of what Madvillainy is all about: all things epic. Grab some popcorn and curl up on the couch and prepare yourself for some... [Read more]
