Rosenberg Radio Podcast
December 29, 2009 by stephaniehoff
Podcasts? You guys repping any these days? I’m still fresh to it but I’ve been subscribing to a few lately. And by subscribing to a few I mean I fast forward through a lot of what I’ve downloaded and then there’s Rosenberg Radio. You guys have to check this one out. The radio show is brought to you by Peter Rosenberg, a serious head in the NewYork hip hop scene that’s paid his dues. The website is worth checking out for interviews, news, tunes and of course the podcast. One of my favorites is the last episode, titled: The Christmas Snooptacular which features an interview by Juan Epstein with the D-O double G himself. It starts off with some entertaining banter and then the two go on to talk about East Coast-West Coast Beef, Pac and Biggie, Snoop’s little league football team and Malice In Wonderland. Basically, everything I was hoping to hear. Check it right here. Image: RosenbergRadio.com
Nelly Offers $10,000 Reward to Snitches
December 28, 2009 by stephaniehoff
So get this, Nelly’s Missouri mansion got robbed earlier this month. Yep and just incase he wasn’t hated enough, today he’s announced his partnership with police to find the culprit. He’s offering a $10,000 reward in addition to the CrimeStoppers reward for information that could lead police to the felony arrest of the individual(s) responsible.
I’m not saying that the rich deserve to get jooked, but I’ve got very little sympathy especially when they happen to be bubble gum rappers at the same time. But that’s just my humble opinion, that one he did with Rick Ross was tight though!

School of Rap
December 28, 2009 by stephaniehoff
If L.L. Cool J is the professor, the teacher, the hip hop dean then he must standing before a classroom of Midwest college students. According to CNN, McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota is the very first to offer a diploma in Hip Hop. The classes combine hands on music and textbook history lessons in a three-semester course. Toki Wright and DJ Freddy Fresh are among two of the instructors teaching this years accredited diploma program.
I dedicate this downlow Juvenile Delinquentz jam by the same name to hip hop school.
True Hip-Hop Stories
December 26, 2009 by stephaniehoff
It’s always interesting hearing the back stories of how my favorite song came to be, or what went down when they were recording, or if there were any changes that took place in the process. Yeah, I know I’m kind of a nerd like that. Anyway, about two years ago I started watching some amazing mini-documentaries made by the legendary rapper D-Nice, I’m sorry I haven’t shared them with you yet. In each episode he picks one rapper to talk about one of their songs, plain and simple. Masta Ace talks about doing The Symphony with the rest of the Juice Crew, Buckshot talks about How Many MC’s with Black Moon, Sadat X talks about Punks Jump Up with Brand Nubian, you get the idea. The videos production value and editing are really slick, they are short and sweet, I suggest you check them out.

Album of the Year 2010, that’s the name of the record not a claim. Dropping summer 2010 on Fat Beats Records. It’s been 2 years since Tronic and I’m hungry for more, it’s going to be a good year. Watch out for the first single, I’ll have it here.
Check out the video to find out what’s happening with Black Milk this year.

Christmas Countdown – 3 Days
December 21, 2009 by stephaniehoff
I’ve been waiting to post this one… It is easily my favorite Outkast joint, and probably my favorite Christmas song. Player’s Ball dropped in 1993 as their first single, but before that it appeared on a compilation called A LaFace Christmas. The record had songs from different LaFace recording artists which included TLC, Toni Braxton and Usher. In Player’s Ball, the beat is carried by sleigh bells while Andre and Big Boi drop their southern playalistic lyrics filled with Christmas references.
“You thought I’d break my neck to help y’all deck the halls”, “Ain’t no chimneys in the ghetto so I won’t be hangin’ my socks”, and “Modern folk is in the back gettin’ tipsy off the nog” are just a few. But the main difference you’ll hear between the album version and the Christmas version is the chorus, “When the player’s ball is happening, on Christmas day”. If you look hard enough you can still find copies of the LaFace version and video on YouTube, unfortunately they seem to be very strict with the embedding privileges, so I’ll have to pass on the album version . Merry Christmas Scrooges.
When hip-hop was fun…
December 19, 2009 by stephaniehoff
While I enjoy gangsta rap, talk about rims, blunts, crunk, booty shaking and all that, I can’t help but feel nostalgic listening to the UMC’s. Even though it was 18 years ago, it’s hard to believe they didn’t get dissed for wearing crazy colorful outfits, and for being so fun and awesome. Can you believe they were from Statin Island? How they ended up so happy and positive while sharing the neighborhood with the Wu-Tang Clan beats the hell outta me. From 1991, here’s their debut single Blue Cheese.
