1520 Sedgwick Threatened By Developers
1520 Sedgwick in the Bronx, New York is considered by many as the building where Hip-Hop began. From parties held there in the 1970’s, DJ Kool Herc and sister, Cindy Campbell developed what would later grow into one of the worlds best known music genre.
But this Hip-Hop shrine might come to an end when developers take hold and renovate the building for more elaborate condos. But residents aren’t standing by idly. Mary Fountain, a resident of 1520 Sedgwick said that she and all of the other residents, are trying to raise the funds they need to buy the building. Their plan is to keep its charm by preserving it and to keep their rents affordable.
The only person standing in their way is real estate mogul Mark Karsick, who is only willing to sell the place at $14 million dollars. The residents have already amassed $11 million, but are now imploring public help for the remaining funds.
I’m all for history. These kinds of places need to be left alone. If I had a few spare million I’d contribute cause developers like Karsick need to be stopped.
